Hi-Torque VS. Hitachi

IMI-Hi-Torque

 vs.

Hitachi Type

SOLENOID DESIGN
The solenoid of the Hi-Torque unit is enclosed in aluminum coupled with a vent hole enabling the unit to dissipate heat more rapidly or “breathe.” Equally important is knowing a half cup volume of air which is circulated when solenoid is energized.      Solenoid is tightly encapsulated in steel. When the starter is near the exhaust system or headers it is often subject to the “Hot  Start” syndrome.

TORQUE

Provides in excess of 525 ft. lbs. of torque.      Provides approximately 425 ft. lbs. (25% less!)

GEAR RATIO

Hi-Torque has a 4.44 to one gear ratio.      Other type 3.75 to one gear ratio.

PHYSICAL DESIGN

IMI is the only unit recommended by one of our country’s leading manufacturer of performance exhaust system or headers. Hi-Torque provides the end user with maximum starter and header clearance.      This type of unit cannot boast this feature.

CURRENT

Under exact load conditions the Hi-Torque unit draws less current than competitive units.      Draws more current than IMI type.

RE-INDEXING (POSITIONING)

To re-index or change the position of the Hi-Torque unit there are three allen head bolts on the front of the unit. Remove these and simply rotate and replace the allen heads.      To reposition requires partial disassembly of the unit and is a much more difficult and complex job for the end user.
