1) Block off all injector lines & returns except for hat
nozzles
2) Connect dual gauge tester to outlet of compressor
3) Set Air Compressor to read 100psi on 1st gauge
4) Connect tester to inlet of barrel valve
5) Read % on 2nd gauge.
Be aware that on some leak-down testers the secondary gauge will read
backwards.
Meaning that instead of reading 30%(psi), (for example) on
your gauge, it will read 70%(psi). You will need to
do some experimenting to determine if your is like that. The
Total Seal tester is designed to
read correctly.
Leaking Down an
Engine Cylinder
1) For most accurate results, engine
should be up to operating temperture.
2) Remove all spark plugs.
3) Rotate crankshaft until piston being tested is at top dead center of
compression stroke.
4) Screw the spark plug adaptor hose into spark plug hole making the sure the
o-ring is seated properly.
5) Connect the spark plug adaptor hose to the coupler of the leakdown tester.
6) Connect leakdown tester to a good source of compressed air, preferably a
filtered and water trapped source.
7) Adjust the regulator on the leakdown tester so the the LEFT HAND GAUGE
indicates at least 10 pounds less than your source pressure.
